There are many big picture reasons that those who have left the corporate world, or never experienced it, give for enjoying home-based business ownership. One thing you hear quite often is that they enjoy their freedom. Freedom means different things to different people. Freedom can mean freedom from others telling you what to do, freedom to work the hours you want, freedom to be the one to make business decisions, freedom to do what you want - when you want.
But does that freedom received through entrepreneurship really enrich your life?
After a conversation about this particular topic, I thought about all the ordinary and special things I enjoy or appreciate because I have the freedom of choice - just because I am a home-based business owner:
- My commute is 23 steps to the office
- Shorts and a t-shirt are business attire
- Time to work on more than one "job" - multiple income streams are so important
- Taking a walk in the middle of the day
- Enjoying a 3-hour lunch with a friend
- Spending time with the grandchildren
- Going on vacation when I want for as long as I want
- Being available for a friend or family member when they need me
- Taking the day off... just because
- Having no one to answer to except myself and my customers
I could go on, but the point is, I'm sure you could easily create a similar list, or possibly totally different list. That's the beauty of being a home-based entrepreneur - you can define freedom any way you want, and enjoy it!
There's an old saying, "It's the little things that count." This list might appear to be little things, and most are, individually. But they do count and add up to a much happier, fulfilling life. Add them all together, and the sum is sum!
