So many people seem to believe that working from home is the answer to all their problems. I mean, what could be better than sitting at home in your pajamas while earning money on your own schedule? It is true that this is a reality for many people, but it is not some magic button-pushing that results in riches with no effort. What does it take?
Here are 4 tips that will have you well on your way:
Ignore Skeptics
Masses of people will be waiting to tell you that working from home is a pipe dream, that it's all a scam. This thinking is the result of doing a quick Google search, scanning some links for 10 minutes and deciding it was a dead end. Not to say there aren't scams (aren't there scams in any industry?) but there are legitimate work at home opportunities. Don't let the lazy and negative deter you from accomplishing your dream.
Be Prepared to Work
Just because you're home doesn't mean it's easy. Sometimes, it will be hard work. There are lots of benefits to working from home; you can set your own hours, don't have to get dressed up, and can come and go as you please. The catch is, sometimes the very things that make it appealing can also make it hard to be successful. Without anyone looking over your shoulder nor a boss enforcing a deadline, it's that much easier to drag your feet, watch some TV, play a game - anything but what you should be doing. It's important to remember that, while nobody is going to chastise you for not getting your work done, nobody is going to pay you either. You are your boss, and need to be accountable.
Create an Office
Evaluate your workspace. Do you work from a desk tucked into the corner of your bedroom? Is you workspace the kitchen table in between meals? Do you try to work on the couch while the rest of your family enjoys conversation and leisure activities? If you found yourself relating to the above scenarios, you will need to make some changes.
Create a space that is only for work. If the corner of a room is your only option, partition it off by blocking the view in some way. An office should be only an office, and nothing else. When you arrive at your office, you're ready to work. When you leave, your workday is over.
Do It
At some point more research just becomes information overload. Plans and accumulated knowledge are only worthwhile if you take action. The reason only a small percentage of people truly realize success is because only a small percentage are willing to do what it takes. They make sacrifices. They're bold even when it's scary. They plod on when they feel tired and hopeless. They prioritize and work efficiently.
And they never, ever quit!
